"If you have an opportunity ride by the facility on the Cooper River and view the Rutgers "R" in the front of the new Camden County Boathouse. Of course many people have been involved in this venture and deserve a lot of credit, however, through the initial efforts of Freeholder Ed McDonnell and  Rutgers-Camden Alumni past president Jim Rhodes '94 the  Rutgers-Camden involvement and place has become a reality. Check out the pictures, or better yet, visit the new boathouse!

See you, soon, at the new Home of the Rutgers-Camden Crew!

Quaker State Regatta

Quaker City Masters Regatta
Schuylkill River, Philadelphia
(Aug 5, 06)

Held on the famous and historic Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, the Quaker City Masters Regatta has been great fun, as our returning participants will tell you. (Check out the pictures -- especially # 21)

There was something for everyone.  Great races and fabulous weather; Quaker City t-shirts and a buffet lunch, and at Fairmount Park a post-race gathering featuring beer from local brewer Yards Ale and pizza from Peace-A-Pizza.

...and our Rutgers-Camden teams came in 3rd Place...
Congratulations to all participants!

Camden County BoathouseThis summer we will unveil the new Camden County Boathouse - the new home of the Rutgers-Camden and Alumni crew teams. Rutgers Alumni Association members will be invited to the new Camden County Boathouse to celebrate with our Rutgers-Camden Crew teams.

We were planning to be in the new Camden County Boathouse for the June 3rd Regatta, but were notified that there have been some construction delays and the building will not be ready for an opening until July 1.) The Regatta on June 3rd, took place as scheduled - only we watched from tents along the waterfront.

Alumnae Crew Teams Earns Respect in First Season

The new Rutgers-Camden Alumni Women's Crew Team posted an against-all-odds victory when the squad delivered an outstanding showing in the competitive 15th annual Howard M. Smith Diamond State Masters Regatta in Wilmington, DE.

The fledgling team, comprised of almost entirely alumnae with little or now rowing experience, earned second-place honors in its age category in the Women's A-J 8+ Novice heat with a time of 4:58.5.

Kudos to our RU-Crew!

History of the Rutgers-Camden Alumni Crew

The Rutgers-Camden Alumni Crew was formed in January of 2003. RUTGERS UNIVERSITY alumni - male, female, young, old, experienced, not experienced came to be part of this new alumni club. What evolved was a group of about 18 dedicated alumni who attended practices, races, regattas etc.  The ages ranged from a couple of alumni from 27-42 years of age, to a majority of participants in the 50+ age group.  Only 2 had any experience, while the others were novices. We entered three officially sanctioned regattas and lost all three.  Our first race was against Temple, UConn, Boston U, Colgate and colleges of that caliber who were all alumni but who all had previously rowed in their respective schools during their undergraduate years.  We amazed the throngs of our fans and those at the regattas because of our tenacity, even though we did not place in the top tier.  However, we entered two teams in the Cheesesteak Regatta on the Schuylkill at Boathouse row and received medals for winning our divisions!
As our reputation grew so did those alumni who wanted to join.  We had a clinic at the end of August 2004 and added 30 new participants.
